Here we are at www.wewriwa.com. A blog hop that gives published and unpublished authors a chance to share 8 sentences of their book or a work-in-progress. Below is a snippet from my paranormal work featuring wolf shifters. Dane is a Detective with a specialized police force and Callie is an Enforcer for her wolf pack. This takes place a little after where last week left off since Callie didn’t get arrested or cuffed to a bed 😉 Micah is her fellow Enforcer.
Callie climbed in Micah’s truck with a grumble. Her growl warned him to be careful before he spoke. Heedless of her temper, he launched right in. “I take it you didn’t get arrested.”
Her grunt was the only response she deemed fitting.
“Does that make you happy or frustrated?”
She turned in her seat and though he kept his gaze straight ahead on the road she could sense the smile he fought back. “I’m going to think of something really good for you, Micah.”
Oooh, I like this. A woman with attitude and even her co-worker picking up on what-might-have-been? Like it, Michelle. Great use of the eights!
Thanks JA
Very nice. The dialogue is crisp–and very real. The emotions came through loud and clear. Nice job! 🙂
Thanks Teresa that makes me happy
Callie seems like a don’t mess with me kind of chick. I like that. 🙂
LOL. She is indeed Beth
Tough chick of course. She’s an enforcer. How come I never learned to be so forceful? Born too soon. You paint a good picture.
Thanks Charmaine. I wish I was as tough as Callie too
This is a delightful eight. I like Callie straight away!
Thanks Millie. I’m glad her character resonates
Interesting tension between the two. Enjoyed the excerpt, which was excellent!
Thank you Veronica. I wanted to make sure her character interacting with others in a way that revealed all sides of her
Don’t mess with Callie. I got it, lol. Sharp 8.
LOL,exactly SJ 🙂
I like her. She’s got attitude. And I’m guessing he’s trying to goad her. Well done. 🙂
Yeah, Micah is a pretty cool character and he has a great relationship with Callie
Ah how a grunt can express so much. I don’t think she’s got something good for Micah. Engaging snippet!
That’s what friends are for Frank.LOL.
I really like the interaction within the two and the economy of dialogue to express so much.
One little detail that caught my attention is that it reads as if she grumbles, growls and grunts in a short time (which is a bit repetitive). I know the “growl” is just a synonym used to explain how Micah reacts to her arrival, so I’d consider merging the first two sentences to smooth the flow.
“Callie climbed in Micah’s truck with a growl that warned him to be careful before he spoke.”
Just a small detail. Overall, it’s a great 8.
Thanks Aheila, good feedback. I’m changing now
Good news on the arrest, but no cuffing? I’d be frustrated, too . . .
ROFL, Sarah
I like her attitude! Great excerpt. 🙂
Thx Danita
Great exchange that really shows the nuances of their relationship. Nice eight!
He knows she’s angry, and he still pushes her buttons? He’s going to deserve her revenge.
Very nice, I can’t wait until I get to read the whole thing.
Love her attitude! Great snippet of 8. Thanks for sharing.
He should probably be very worried. LOL. Great girl there. Love her attitude. Thanks for sharing.
