I feel like I’ve been gone forever but it was only a few weeks in August. Ever have days where it feels like your juggling 5-10 plates without any training? That’s been my life recently. Nothing crazy just a lot going on and boxes to check. House stuff, school stuff, work stuff and…stuff. LOL. Today I’m continuing with a work in progress that I refer to as Something New. I’ve bounced between the heroine Cellimina (no laughing) being called Cellie with an E or Celli ending in an I. (its pronounced sell-ie) The dilemma is because I have a character in another book named Ellie and then a secondary character in this book called Cordie. Clearly I have a problem. LOL. But I really liked her name for some reason as soon as I made it up. *shrug* What are you gonna do? Anyway this is another sci-fi romance that will probably be ready in the new year 2016 since I have a couple of other books ahead of it. Below Cellie and her friend Cordie are in a bit of trouble. I think I did 9 sentences instead of 10 to keep from ending on an odd note.
“What do we do, Cellimina?” Cordie gasped as rising smoke filled the transfer room.
Thoughts raced through Cellie’s mind as she tossed one idea out after the other. Clearly the computer was fried and they wouldn’t be able to use the transfer to get to the Zanian IX.
“We’re not done yet, Your Highness,” Cellie promised.
Though pale, Cordie bolstered. She smiled and her red eyes sparked. “I trust you Cellie. But what in the blazes do you think we can do before this whole thing blows.”
It sounds as though your life could also justify this comment: “But what in the blazes do you think we can do before this whole thing blows?”
So true.

My first thought, was oh, a pun. (I’m sure you didn’t mean it that way). There’s fire. the computer is fried, and then Cellie says, “We’re not DONE (cooked) yet.” That’s just me. Probably nobody else will see it that way.
I like how the description mirrored the fire — her RED eyes SPARKED, what in BLAZES…
In the first drafts of one of my books, I had 5 characters with C names. I ended up changing 3 of them.
it didn’t notice all those cooking references Cara and I have to wonder if I was hungry when I wrote that section. LMAO.
Take a deep breath and move on. You’re doing fine-a little bit off your normal stride but what the heck!

Although individually I like the names, using Cellie and Cordie together really doesn’t work for me. I keep thinking they’re twins 🙂 and I think it would get confusing. But the excerpt was excellent, tense moment.
that’s part of my hang up. It could be confusing since both characters have a lot of scenes together. Maybe I’ll refer to Cordie by her full name throughout to eliminate the rhyming nature.
Great snippet, I’m immediately sucked into the moment. I always seem to give my characters “M” names. Probably there’s some interesting psychological analysis on that.
it makes you wonder doesn’t it Alexis. the names of my characters usually pop into my head and I think perfect but there is this tendency for them to match. Maybe I need to add some M names 🙂

On the name, I don’t think you have to worry about Cellie and Ellie. As long as the reader can differentiate between Cellie and Cordie (and I am seeing Charisma Carpenter in that role, sorry;), I’d say you’re okay.
I like your name choice, especially Celie. This is an intense scene.

Glad to see you back, Michelle! I like the name as well. Names ending in IE are never bad. In fact, you could use my actual name, Julie, anytime you want. 😉 Hope life gets a bit easier for you!
I love Jules as a nickname in honor of one of my favorite characters ever-Jules Cassidy from Suzanne Brockmann. Don’t be surprised of I manage a Julie next year 🙂
