Jaron’s Promise-excerpt

I’m switching to holiday mode but I have to remind myself to keep working until the actual Christmas Day. BUT as a small gift for fans of A World Beyond, I’m sharing another excerpt.  I’m so excited about this release 🙂 I think readers are going to fall in love with Jaron.

(unedited excerpt-subject to minor changes)

“Interesting isn’t it?”

Jaron faced Dr. Kirkem worried he’d revealed his thoughts. He sat up and braced his elbows on his knees. “What is?”

The Collector continued staring at the screen as he responded. “Attachments are created in the oddest situations.”

A guard entered the room and went straight to the blue skinned Ari. Unable to do anything, Jaron watched as the already weakened alien race was hit repeatedly with a shock stick until he collapsed in a shuddering ball on the floor. Eyes narrowed, Jaron breathed through his nose and didn’t say anything.

“Nature creates this instinct to form bonds,” Dr. Kirkem continued. “Even when we don’t want them. That’s what happened with me and my Joni. Something about her drew me.”

Jaron’s breath hitched as the guard stopped before a growling Sasha. Everything in him stilled. His heart took off, the beats banging against his chest and he wasn’t sure how he’d react if forced to witness an attack on her.

“Now here is where I get sentimental. Out of my care for Joni, I offer you a choice, Jutak.”

The guard dragged a wicked sharp knife from the leather about his waist. Jaron’s fingers flexed but he kept them on his knees and turned his attention toward Dr. Kirkem. Whatever he heard wouldn’t be good. Nothing that happened here was good and it didn’t pay to pretend otherwise.

When Jaron didn’t answer, Dr. Kirkem squeezed his hand tight on the data pad. The small tell concerned Jaron but not as much as wondering what he planned next. “Here’s my offer. The Argoran or the Earth woman.”

Forcing himself to stay in his chair and not go for the crazy scientist. He couldn’t fathom the question. “What about them?”

“You disappoint me.” Dr. Kirkem tapped a few keys then lifted the data pad to his mouth. “The Earthling.”

The guard spun away from Sasha and approached the other cell. He entered and ignored Luna’s pleas. Jaron shot to his feet but when Dr. Kirkem held up his other hand with a remote, Jaron fisted his hands at his side, chest heaving.

On screen, the first slash went across Luna’s hip, spraying blood. Jaron bit his inner cheek, the pain jolting him. He kept his voice low and calm. “Stop hurting her.”

“Sit now!” Dr. Kirkem roared, his eyes flaring with the light of madness.

Another slash and Luna screamed.

Three words which best described Varyk, King of the Green Dracol. Events in his life taught him to hold his heart back to avoid the pain of loss. To do so, he used his insufferable attitude as protection and it worked. Until fate came into play.

Inez is a soldier with the Black Dracol who has no problem saying what she means. Love and mating are for the distant future. Until an act of betrayal causes her path to cross an arrogant King.

Suddenly two opposing forces must find a way to work together to ensure the continuation of the hard fought peace between their kind.

Rylin must have hovered on the cusp of her mind, waiting. Cascading emotions slammed into her. Inez tried to convey her thoughts on the situation and sharp colors of black, silver and hints of purple pounded at her as his rage sought a target.

The desire to hunt Larz down and eat his beating heart before crushing his skull between brutal claws was a clear image in Inez’s mind. She flinched. Urgency followed the blood thirsty representation and a warning.

The shells were close to hatching. They would heat and blaze with the fire of the Black Dracol before cracking to release the new babies soon.

“The babies will be born soon,” she said in aside to Varyk.

Shadows reflected in his gold touched orbs. “First light, Inez. You have my vow.”

Reluctant, Inez agreed. There really wasn’t a choice. She pushed the need for trust along the connection. Reluctance and hesitation slid around her conscious before she sensed Rylin pull away and blinked. “Looks like I’m staying.”

An abrupt nod followed. With measured steps, Varyk walked toward her, only stopping when bare inches separated them. He cupped her jaw, tilting her face up to stare into her eyes. “Rest. Tomorrow I’ll be fully recovered.”

Inez quirked her brow, some of her humor and balance returning. “Does this make us partners?”

His smile chilled. “No.”

Trial By Flame-New Release Coming

Did you know MK Eidem and I have a new release coming? Trial By Flame contains Autumn’s Kiss, the sequel to Kirall’s Kiss and Relentless Fire, the sequel to Rylin’s Fire. Two wonderful stories of dragon hot romance. Today I’m sharing the cover AND I managed to beg and plead for MK to give us a sneak look at Autumn’s Kiss. 🙂 Next week I’ll share from Relentless Fire

ooooh, pretty. LOL.

Available at all retailers

Autumn’s Kiss excerpt:

“Autumn, these are my brothers Zeb, Jariath, and Radko.” Kirall gestured to each one as he said their name. “Brothers, this is my mate, Autumn.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Autumn said giving each one of them a small smile. She knew her mother would be upset if she didn’t at least make an attempt at being polite. Funny how even after her being gone for all these years, those lessons still stuck. “Kirall has told me a great deal about all of you.”

“Really?” The taller of the three asked skeptically.

“Really,” she replied. “It was a rather long trip so to fill in some of the time, Kirall told me stories about all the trouble his brothers would get into. Especially you, Zeb.” She saw Zeb’s eyes widen slightly at being singled out. “It seems you liked starting Nixie’s hair on fire… and it wasn’t always an accident.”

“What?!!” Nixie demanded, hearing what Autumn said as she walked over to join them.

“Now, Nixie.” Zeb raised a placating hand even as he tried not to smirk. “You know it’s quite common for a young Dragoon to have trouble controlling their fire at first. Even you did,” he reminded her. “I distinctly remember you torching that tapestry once during evening meal.” He gestured to the wall behind them and turning, Autumn saw that indeed the tapestry hanging there had black singe marks along the bottom.

“That was the first time my fire ever appeared!” she told him angrily. “It never happened again. You, on the other hand, were nearly sixty before you gained full control of yours.”

“Are you sure about that?” Autumn questioned quietly. She wasn’t sure why, but she was thoroughly enjoying teasing Zeb. She supposed it was because when Kirall told her about all the tricks Zeb played on his older sister, it reminded her of Jack.

“What are you talking about?” Nixie demanded, her gaze going from Autumn to Kirall, who was fighting a smile, to Zeb who was doing his best to look innocent. “Are you saying you intentionally burnt my hair off? The Annual Ball was that night! It was my first time attending!”
