I never thought names would be an issue for me. At least not this early in the game. I already had set names for characters in my WIP and surprisingly enough already had a decent title picked out that right now, I still love. BUT. What I’ve learned is that characters can pop out of the woodwork. I’m a good 40% of the way through my project and suddenly I have characters showing up that I hadn’t planned on. People that for obvious reason need names. If I’m to maintain consistency, they need a first and last name. LOL. Last night, I spent some time scrounging for a name that I hadn’t already used in my outline, one that I liked and hopefully if I take the leap into publishing, one that readers will like.
This may seem like a small thing but honestly it wasn’t. So many questions go into selecting a name such as the characters personality, the way it sounds when others use it and again…do I LIKE it. In a way, I launched into this as if I were naming a child. After all, it’s going to stick with them forever in the world of romance and any other novel I create where they may make a guest appearance. *sigh* I think I’m going to mark that on my list of things to have handy. Extra names-male and female. This should save me some needless stress in the late hours of the night.
