Book Review: Hunter by Jax (Jacquelyn Frank)

So, today I decided to switch things up. I don’t want this blog to be all about me, though I will continue to share the highs and lows of the writing journey as I discover things along the way. BUT, today, I thought I’d do a review. Not an official line by line and plot summary review, but a gut check on a recent book I read. (Provided by Kensington Publishing via NetGalley)

HUNTER by Jax aka the awesome Jacquelyn Frank is a new release out this month. Now if you’re not familiar with the Jax name, it is Ms. Frank’s hotter alter ego. HUNTER is a paranormal romance involving the world of witches. Our heroine, Tatyanna has decided to surprise her brother with a visit because he has been secretive lately. (More than that but that’s the gist) Hunter Finn is the hot hero who also happens to be a witch and returning home for the first time in years. What I like most about this is that there are plenty of witch romances out there but Jax has created a nice spin to her fictitious world. Yes they are witches, yes they live in covens but in Jax’s world these are kick a$$ warrior fighting witches. The characters aren’t just black and white. They have issues and flaws and their own special talent/power. The action scenes are classic Frank and lend the story of witches an almost kung fu theater flair. There is cool flying, thrown lightning bolts and of course powerful magic. The sex scenes are hot and there is plenty heated action between the hero and heroine that were in line with the tone Ms. Frank sets under the Jax name.

I was in a nutshell surprised and pleased when I finished it. There are a couple of wrinkles here and there but I put that more to it being a starter novel in the series and firmly ranked this a 3.5 stars. As with all of her books (those I loved and those I just liked) Jacquelyn Frank/Jax creates a world of secondary characters which leaves readers longing for me. I know I’m interested in the sequel to HUNTER. Speaking of, I wonder if we’ll get more books about the characters from Drink of Me.
