So its a big day in more ways than one. First its the release of book 2 in A World Beyond. That’s right. Arak’s Love is here at last. I do hope everyone enjoys reading about another Jutak falling in love. For those who are curious: a few questions from book 1 will be answered but of course that will lead to more questions because…well because I’m loving the plot and storyline of all these guys. The 2nd cool thing about today is the Paranormal Blog hop. I love blog hops because as a reader I discover new books and as an author I discover new authors. Total win! This blog hope focuses on authors sharing an excerpt of their current work or work in progress. Now here’s my excerpt and contribution. Arak might not be a monster per se but nothing like a shifter on the trail of his woman. Enjoy 🙂
The rich aroma of several dishes brimmed on the air. Arak scanned the crowd looking for one face in particular. He recognized a few of the diners but his steps didn’t slow to greet or make small talk. Something Arak would hear about later. Another sweep of the room showed couples laughing as they nestled together, families in groups huddled around larger tables as they celebrated some momentous occasion.
Sylvie’s blonde hair blended in on a planet predisposed to light haired, blue eyed citizens but one thing about her would never blend. Her scent. Arak inhaled deeply, searching for the familiar twang. The sweet essence only Sylvie carried. It hit him like a blow to the mid-section. His head swiveled to the side and eyes narrowed on an intimate table set for two in a small alcove off to his right. Sylvie leaned forward, smiling at her dining partner.
Possession cascaded through him although the tension vibrating through his pores eased. Her mouth curved as she spoke to her companion then laughed. Each note of the delicious sound reached his ears easily. Arak was drawn in her direction. Drawn to Sylvie and reached her table without remembering moving.
Sylvie’s head tipped up. Surprise then pleasure flittered across her features. “Arak!”
His relief at her reaction waned as he remembered Joni’s words. “Where is he?”
Her mouth formed an O. “What?”
Arak breathed out then in, fingers curled into a fist to prevent his claws from emerging. “Joni said you were on a date.”
Half-Argoran shifter, Arak O’tir knew good people existed. He worked with some of them. But as a deadly Jutak warrior, his work often took him into the less savory elements of society. So much so, he shielded his heart from those he rescued. That was, until one particular mission leaves him longing for a specific female. Someone who made him tremble even if she wasn’t from his world.
Sylvia Forrester never expected her quest for a husband would lead her into danger. Nor could she have ever foreseen that her search would find her captured by aliens and added to a list of potential sex-slaves to be sold for a high profit. While her captors should have broken her, destroying any hope she’d had of a life happily-ever-after, Sylvia’s savior has her wondering if her earlier dreams could still come true.
But Arak and Sylvia soon discover love and passion has its own price.
